"why do you like typography?" personally, i don't really like typography that much. i just like when it works. it is just a functional tool. that said, i don't fantasize about letters like people in my class. but rita likes typography to an extent. this is what she has to say about it.

Fonte de graisses
les caractères perdus
réapparaissent.

Deux polices enlacées
romaines et italiques
traversent la page.

En gros plan
une ligature d'expert
la routine.

Là-bas repose
entre deux montagnes de feuilles
les orphelines.

Des mécanes
à la une du journal
rien d'autre.

and here is a poem by mahi mahi based on my translation (we are seen in the above photo collaborating through connected minds):

fat fonts, lost characters that reappear,
roman policeman/italic policeman,
the low based routine across the page.
(which one? this one? a web page, a newspaper page? a pager? larry page?)

orphans and widows between two mountains of leaves (an orphan widow valley, a sandwich of sorts, a layer cake)
the main news was of a mechanical nature,
well,
that's it-- nothing else.

love always,
a (the?) ligature expert
